Comments On Law: Referral Fees

9. September 2011

Alistair Worth - Director and Solicitor at Mooneerams Solicitors, Personal Injury SpecialistsAlistair Worth, Director at Mooneerams Solicitors commented in the Western Mail on the ban on referral fees, announced by the government on 9th September 2011.

Alistair stated “As a firm that never has and never will pay for a case, we wholeheartedly welcome the move to ban referral fees for personal injury claims.

“Claimants are not commodities there to be auctioned off – they should have the freedom to choose the best solicitor to take on their case, rather than having it passed on to the highest bidder."

“The current system sees injured parties lumbered with solicitors that are not necessarily local and who, otherwise, they would not have chosen to represent them. "

“Unfortunately, many of the insurance firms claiming they need to increase their premiums to cover the cost of more claims are the same companies that are profiting from selling on cases to law firms who are willing to pay for them."

“Putting a stop to allowing such companies to sell on a case will provide better access to justice for claimants, which is something we are keen to promote. ” (read the whole article here)
