  • The compensation calculator figures set out here are merely intended to act as a guide. They include general damages figures as set out in the 17th edition, 2023, of the ‘Judicial College Guidelines for the Assessment of General Damages in Personal injury Cases’. Every personal injury claim is different, and these general guidelines do not consider all of the individual circumstances that will make up your claim and contribute to the amount of compensation you receive.

Compensation Calculator

This personal injury compensation calculator provides a guide to the amount of compensation you might expect to receive for certain types of injury if you bring a claim for personal injury following an accident that was not your fault.

By clicking on any of the pulsating crosses, you will see the maximum and minimum compensation awards you could expect to receive for the types of injury shown, broken down into degrees of severity, each outlining expressed as a range of possible compensation awards.

The figures shown come from the latest edition of the Judicial College Guidelines. They only relate to ‘general damages’, i.e., compensation for pain and suffering (physical and mental injury) and loss of amenity (compensation for the injury’s effect on your enjoyment of life). General Damages do not include special damages; financial losses such as loss of earnings for taking time off work to recover.

The best way to use our compensation calculator is to consider it merely a rough guide to general damages and then read our short articles, ‘What are the Judicial College Guidelines’ and ‘How much is the average personal injury worth?

Whiplash Injuries

In May 2021, the government introduced the whiplash reforms. In brief this means that if you are over 18 and the driver or passenger in a car involved in a road traffic accident on or after 31st May 2021, and you suffer a whiplash injury, you will now be restricted to claiming a fixed amount as set out in the table below.

Duration of injury Amount for Whiplash Amount for whiplash and minor psychological injury
Up to 3 months £240 £260
3-6 months £495 £520
6-9 months £840 £895
9-12 months £1,320 £1,390
12-15 months £2,040 £2,125
15-18 months £3,005 £3,100
18-24 months £4,215 £4,345

The new rules do not apply to whiplash injuries sustained in accidents at work or slip, trip or fall accidents and they do not apply to:

  • Pedestrians
  • Cyclists
  • Motorcyclists (and pillion passengers)
  • Scooter riders
  • Minors – persons under 18 years of age

The reforms mean that if your whiplash injury falls to be dealt with under the whiplash reform tariff, and the total value of your claim is less than £10,000, you will not recover any legal costs in pursuing a whiplash injury claim.

The reforms have already caused much confusion amongst road traffic accident victims. For more information contact one of our road traffic accident team at Mooneerams solicitors on 029 2048 3615.
