In March 2027, nine of us from Mooneerams Solicitors will be heading to Morocco to take on something a little different.

We’ll be walking 50 kilometres across the Sahara Desert in support of our wonderful charity partner, Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital Charity.

It’s not something any of us would pretend is going to be easy. Over the course of several days, we’ll be trekking across sand dunes and dry riverbeds, in temperatures that can reach the mid-30s during the day before dropping sharply at night.

We’ll be camping under the stars, carrying what we need, and relying on local guides (plus some friendly camels) to get us safely from one point to the next.

But the reason for doing it is simple.

Why are we doing a 50K trek across the Sahara?

Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital Charity does remarkable work as the fundraising partner for Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital. It aims to ensure that the Hospital can provide sick children in Wales with state-of-the-art equipment, facilities and services.

The funds that the charity provides mean the hospital – and more importantly its young patients – don’t have to forego the best facilities and equipment possible simply because they fall outside the remit of NHS funding.

Over the past year the Mooneerams team has been privileged to take part in some of the charity’s fundraising events, including as a sponsor of its 25th Anniversary Ball. We’ve learned so much from the wonderful team at Noah’s Ark. The way that they tirelessly work to raise funds for something they believe in so much, is inspirational to see.

We’ve met some of the young heroes and their families many of whom have been to hell and back, but continue to battle on. Success stories are celebrated in style. Equally we’ve seen the sadness that affects everyone when there isn’t a happy ending.

The wonderful hospital staff and the Noah’s Ark Charity team keep going, always with a smile on their faces, even when at times it can’t be easy.

We want to help this fantastic charity by raising as much money as we possibly can.

Which members of the Mooneerams team are taking part?

The nine of us taking on the challenge are:

We’re all up for the challenge and ready to put the work in to give it our best shot.

What lies ahead (apart from a lot of sand…)?

The trek itself takes place over several days, with long drives into the desert followed by consecutive days of walking across remote terrain. On average, we’ll be covering around 15–20 kilometres a day in challenging conditions. Apparently, it gets a little warm out there.

There are no comforts to fall back on with a complete absence of hotels once we arrive in the desert. We’ll be reliant on just our basic daily needs.

Fundraising over the next year

Between now and March 2027, we’ll be raising funds both individually and as a team.

There’ll be a mix of events, challenges, and a few ‘TBC’ ideas that we are still working through. We’ll share updates along the way so you can all follow how we’re getting on. This will be a fundraising effort the like of which we’ve never tackled before – so we will need all your help!

We’d love you to support the team on its journey, and we’ll be sharing details of how to donate very shortly.

It’s become a bit of a cliché but it’s true – every pound raised will go directly to Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital Charity.

We’ll keep you posted

This is merely the warm-up lap of the warm-up lap. There’s plenty to do over the coming months.

We’ll share updates on our progress with you about our training and our fundraising efforts.
